DIY Scalp Scrubs

DIY Scalp Scrubs!

What Impact Does Buildup Have on Your Hair and Scalp? Before we get started with these fantastic DIY recipes, let’s talk about your scalp and hair health. Consistent use of styling or moisturizing hair products can create buildup of product and dead skin cells, which leads to hair follicles getting clogged.

Additionally, an overproduction of sebum (an oily substance your body naturally secrets) may lead to various skin issues that impact your scalp, including dandruff. A nice scalp scrub and exfoliation helps ensure that all of this buildup is removed for clear follicles and healthy hair.

For Dry Scalp Is your scalp dry? Then you’ll appreciate this DIY scalp scrub. All you need are the following ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons sea salt
  • 1–2 tablespoons lemon juice, fresh from slices (you can do the same with orange as a more gentle substitute)
  • 1–2 tablespoons olive oil

The sea salt works as a gentle exfoliant to unclog hair follicles while the olive oil provides moisture and a layer of protection from harsh products. The lemon is a natural exfoliator that helps to dissolve any residue on the scalp and helps to rebalance the pH of you scalp.

Lemon or orange are also natural chelators. You may have 99 problems, but your scalp won’t be one!

For Oily Scalp Not all of us suffer from a dry scalp, but rather the overproduction of oil. If this sounds like you, then this is sure to be your favorite go-to scrub. The ingredients are:

  • 1 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoons finely ground oatmeal (if you are not gluten-free; otherwise, double the brown sugar)
  • 2-3 tablespoons unscented shampoo, or our Kavella Volumizing Shampoo (the almond scent goes perfectly with the sugar and oatmeal)

Increase circulation in your hair follicles by combining brown sugar and oatmeal to create the perfect exfoliant. Your scalp will get perfectly clean without adding in additional oil or moisture that you don’t need. Keep it simple with this incredible scrub!

For Dandruff, Dry/Itchy Scalp or to Treat Hair Loss Already have our Scalp Oil? Turn it into a scrub easily by adding some sea salt or sugar!

The sugar works as a gentle exfoliant to unclog hair follicles while our Scalp & Hair Oil does its magic to tone and treat the scalp and increase blood flow. Follow with our Clarifying Shampoo for increased circulation to the scalp.

For Detoxifying Need an overall scalp boost? This simple detoxifying recipe will be the answer to your prayers. The ingredients are:

  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil
  • 2 tablespoons sea salt or himalayan salt
  • 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
  • 3 drops rosemary essential oil

You’ll love that the coconut oil hydrates your hair and scalp without feeling too thick and heavy. Of course, the sugar works as an excellent exfoliant, and the apple cider vinegar acts as a gentle chelator to detoxify heavy metal from the hair. (What's a chelator? Read more about that here!)

ACV also acts as an anti-fungal. Rosemary not only smells AMAZING, but it also increases blood flow and promotes hair growth.

At Kavella, we are all about making the most of natural ingredients by mindfully selecting only the best options for our customers. If you’re looking for products that are gentle and pH balanced for optimal scalp health, then check out our extensive options for all hair types and textures!
